dc.description | The purpose of this investigation is to obtain comprehensive data on the performance of the standard sizes of airplane tires and wheels in the clincher types, and the existing straight side types size, with special reference to the load-deflection curves of the tires and ultimate strength of the various sizes of wheels. From the curves obtained in the foregoing tests, it is possible to determine the size of the wheel, size of tire, and the most satisfactory air pressure to use for any particular airplane when the weight is known. In addition, the factor of safety can be calculated from the information relative to the breaking load of wheels of various sizes. | en_US |
