Description
This document describes the migration loss of farm laborers from Alabama. It includes a historical overview of the Alabama farm labor situation from the early 1800s through the 1930s and points out the economic reasons why black laborers especially left Southern farms to seek industrial jobs in the North. It also describes efforts by the Extension Service to reduce the loss of farm laborers by providing educational support."Prepared for the special Congressional committee investigating interstate migration of destitute citizens, meeting in Montgomery, Ala., August 14-16, 1940."
