The objects of the tests were twofold. First, the determination of the agreement between tail loads on a BT-2B airplane in zero thrust glides and tail loads predicted by the methods outlined in the Sixth Edition of the Handbook of Instructions for Airplane Designers. Second, to determine the behavior of the 12-element McCollum-Peters telemeter set as a flight strain recorder, and what modifications, procedure, etc., would be necessary to render it suitable for obtaining records in flight. The tail loads on BT-2B airplane, Air Corps No. 31-35, were found to be in agreement with the tail loads predicted by the method outlined in the handbook. The McCollum-Peters 12-element telemeter apparatus with modifications and refinements outlined in the text of this report, and with suitable working conditions, can be made to yield results as a flight test strain recorder.en_US
