DescriptionThe object of these tests was to determine the structural strength of the Kerber-Boulton experimental spar. This experimental (Warren truss type) spar was built up of duralumin and steel tubes. The first test was brought to a close when the strut and end fittings failed under a load equivalent to 85 per cent of the designed load. In the second test the spar failed under the required load. The strut fitting also failed. The original spar (second article) was 15 percent below the strength requirements. On the second test the spar failed under its designed load and can be considered structurally satisfactory.
